Dental Care Without the Fear

Dental anxiety is more common than you might think — millions of Americans avoid necessary dental care each year because of fear or apprehension. At Stephen A. Rodgers, DMD Family Dentistry, we understand, and we are here to help. Our sedation dentistry options allow anxious patients to receive the care they need in a calm, comfortable, and stress-free environment.

Whether you experience mild nervousness or severe dental phobia, Dr. Rodgers will work with you to find the right level of sedation to make your visit as pleasant as possible. You deserve a healthy smile — and we are committed to helping you achieve it without fear getting in the way.

You are not alone. Studies estimate that up to 75% of adults experience some level of dental anxiety. Sedation dentistry is a safe, proven solution that has helped countless patients get back on track with their oral health — and even look forward to their dental visits.

Sedation Options We Offer

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Ideal for: Mild to moderate anxiety

Nitrous oxide is a safe, well-established sedation option delivered through a small mask placed over your nose. It produces a relaxed, euphoric feeling within minutes while keeping you fully conscious and able to communicate. The effects wear off quickly — most patients can drive themselves home after their appointment.

  • Works within minutes
  • Easily adjustable throughout the procedure
  • Wears off quickly — no lingering drowsiness
  • Safe for children and adults

Oral Conscious Sedation

Ideal for: Moderate to severe anxiety

With oral conscious sedation, you take a prescribed medication before your appointment that produces a deeper state of relaxation. You remain conscious and able to respond to Dr. Rodgers, but most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterward. A responsible adult must drive you to and from your appointment.

  • Deeply relaxed state throughout treatment
  • Little to no memory of the procedure
  • Ideal for longer or more complex appointments
  • Allows multiple procedures in a single visit

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Sedation dentistry may be right for you if any of the following apply:

Patients with a strong gag reflex
Those who have difficulty getting numb from local anesthetic
Patients who need extensive or complex treatment
Anyone who has trouble sitting still for long periods
Patients with special needs or sensory sensitivities
Those who want to complete multiple procedures in one visit

A Note on Safety

Your safety is our top priority. Before recommending any sedation option, Dr. Rodgers will review your complete medical history, current medications, and overall health.
